Q: What is the distance for adoptions?
A: We adopt 200 miles outside of I-435 circle around the Kansas City area.
Q: Do you ever adopt outside the limit, if not why?
A: We normally do not due to the home study. We do a home study on all birds from Conure to a Macaw. We also do a two year follow up on the birds.
Q: What kind of birds can your group take in?
A: Beak n Wings takes in mostly PARROTS. We are able to take in any birds not protected by state or federal laws.
Q: How long does it take for the adoption to be final?
A: Typically it takes around two weeks. At times an adoption can take longer than expected.
Q: What kind of birds require a home study?
A: Conures to Macaws. We do not do home studies for small birds any longer due to the large number of smaller birds which come into the program. We do not have the volunteers to do that many home studies.
Q: Why do you do home studies?
A: Some of the birds we have taken in have come from good homes, and some have come from homes that are not so good. We are looking for the best possible home for all the birds we take in.
Q: I have other animals in my home, will that eliminate me?
A: No. Many homes have multiple types of animals. As long as the owners are capable of handling all the other animals then we will not have a problem with the other animals.
Q: Do you adopt to smokers?
A: This one is a bit touchy. We will adopt out to smokers, as long as we can tell the bird is NOT going to be placed in the same room as the smoke.
