Our Adoption Process
Beak n Wings, Inc (BNW) has three main goals:
• Parrot Rehabilitation
• Owner Education
• Community Awareness
Parrot Rehabilitation: BNW takes in parrots that need new homes. The majority of these are surrendered when their owners can no longer take care of them, a few are simply no longer wanted and even fewer have been abused. Our parrots live in foster homes, are treated like companions (pets) and rehabilitated if necessary, therefore we have no shelter building. All of our birds stay in our volunteers' homes as fosters. We have found that this provides them with the best environment to remain well socialized or to be successfully rehabilitated.
Owner Education: BNW educates current and potential parrot owners on how to be the best caregivers to their feathered pets. Our training class addresses issues such as parrot behavior, taming, training, grooming, nutrition and emergency care.
Community Awareness: BNW promotes public awareness about birds and responsible bird ownership. We travel to schools, pet stores, and community centers educating the public about the unique nature of parrots. We encourage the public to research the different species of bird before buying or adopting a bird as a pet.
